We won!

Our quad won today at Midwest Masters! It was held at Eagle Creek Park.
~750 m

Almost done (and winning!) Not the prettiest strokes here, but we were really wailing on it at the end

Heading back to the dock

This was my first race stroking. The event was strong and fast, and we felt faster than the just-under-four-minutes time, results here (races 16 and 8 ). We’ve been practicing together and it was nice to have a real test of our improvement.

We also raced a women’s eight in the morning and kicked butt in that too.

One published year

I’ve blogged for a year! I think I still have the same three readers but that’s ok. 🙂

Last weekend Dad came down to paint my house and play cribbage. My bedroom is no longer pinky lavender! Casper helped.

Last week I saw the worst-made sign. I don’t understand why someone who is going to spend time stenciling the sale info would do it on a piece of box that hasn’t even had the edges trimmed and then duct tape it to someone else’s sign.

Things Walt has eaten

Walt likes to destroy things. Here he’s wrestling with the ugly red star toy, trying to remove the eyes. Note all the other toys around him. He’ll even run downstairs and bring back more.

He managed to break the second eye and then pull the stuffing out from behind it.

The casualties:
platypus toy
multiple squirrel toys
squeaky steak toy
a Teva sandal
duck toy’s head
phone cord
North Face shorts zipper
hard drive
repaired phone cord
power adapter
pink feather duster
donut toy (toy downstairs but stuffing found upstairs)
Swiffer dusters
red star toy
a lot of Casper’s fur
EDIT to add:
hammer toy
my lawn mowing shoes
slipper insoles
dice toy
Batman Begins Netflix DVD

Petsmart Petition

Petsmart is test marketing the sale of bunnies in 40 stores to determine if they will sell them elsewhere as well. This contradicts their previous commitment:

“We try to stay on the side of angels with all animals. We do not sell certain animals for specific reasons.” The article then goes on to note that “Rabbits are also taboo. Six weeks before the Easter holiday bunnies become popular pet purchases, but 10 days later the majority of them wind up in shelters. For this reason, PETsMART will not sell rabbits, but it will carry rabbit food and supplies.”

Best Friends Animal Society has sponsored a petition asking Petsmart to reconsider selling rabbits. More than 25,000 people have signed. Please help us prevent further pet mills: rabbits in pet stores come from breeders just like milled puppies and kittens. Sign the petition here. You do not need to register: just enter your name, email, and city.
