“But you fell out of the tall tower!”

The other quote I considered was: “She has huge… tracts of land”

One of the properties on our short list of where to live in Ireland is what I’m calling the Mother-In-Law Castle!

The Dower House, Kilbrittain, Co. Cork

It was built in the 17th century for the MIL of the lord of the ridiculous c. 1035 castle across the street!

I keep thinking we need boiling oil or maybe Nancy Drew will stop by and find something under the staircase. I’m already afraid of the wine cellar and the “sub-lower level.”

  1. are you kidding?! living in a castle-like house would add just another layer of fun to this adventure. And ooo! What if it’s haunted?! Big, big fun!

  2. Oh, God. The joy in the green space of that 2nd picture. Wow.

Remind me again – can you take the dogs with you? I bet they’d love to romp through those fields.

When Dave & I visited England, we stayed in a haunted bed/breakfast. The building had once been some kind of mental hospital, with the morgue in the basement. The innkeeper told us about a jilted bride who committed suicide in our room, who’s ghost liked to tuck her guests in to their beds, to make them feel warm and secure.

When we woke up in the morning, we were each tucked in so tight we couldn’t move. There’s no way Dave could have done that to me – he was tucked in from his toes to his chin, as was I. Thinking about it *still* makes the hair on my arms stand up.

Our place was featured on one of those “ghost hunter” tv shows. Who knows? Maybe your castle will be, too! 🙂
